Shirley was a lovely, funny friend and colleague to me and she will be sadly missed by many family members and friends. I have some super memories of time spent with her and can think of them with a smile.
Helen, James, Matt and Joe were able to spend so much time with her, which when they look back, they will realise was more special than anything else they could have done for Shirley. Rest in peace lovely lady.

I have known Shirley since she became the Nursery teacher at Woodsend Primary. She was always full of fun and had such a lovely way with the children. She cared so much about them and always wanted to do the very best for them. I am sure all her pupils had lovely memories of their time in Nursery with Mrs Barker. I recall a particular favourite activity of the children being to ‘paint’ the fence with proper paint brushes and water. They had a great time.
Shirley’s sense of fun shone through the various activities she took part in throughout school. Her portrayal of Madonna in one concert always sticks in my mind.
After Shirley started her well deserved retirement, her daughter Helen kept us up to date with her adventures. It was so kind of Shirley to come and help the children of Acre with crafts and seasonal activities. They always looked forward to her visits.
